Prices are falling in the world iron and steel industry due to China's high production capacity. This leads manufacturers to produce high-yielding products with less amount of production. Rail and rail equipment is one of the increasingly being produced iron and steel product in our country in recent years. In this study, by analizing export data of rail and rail equipment (including wagon wheel) of Turkey, a forecasting for the years 2016-2020 has been made with the aim of guiding producers and giving an idea about exporting of these products. Grey prediction method and Holt's exponential smoothing technique were used for forecasting and the results were compared.

Avrupa ülkelerinde yüksek bir oranda ve yüksek standartlarda kullanılan demir yolu taşımacılığının Türkiye'deki durumu da günden güne iyileşmektedir. Güvenli, düşük maliyetli ve çevreci bir taşımacılık yöntemi olan demir yolu taşımacılığı hem yolcu hem de yük taşımacılığı açısından önemlidir. Bu çalışmada Türkiye ve Avrupa Birliği ülkelerindeki demir yollarının sayısal verileri ile yolcu ve yük taşımacılığı verileri veri madenciliği yöntemlerinden kümeleme analizi yardımıyla incelenmiştir. Ayrıca Türkiye'nin yeri ve durumunu daha iyi görebilmek adına nüfus, gelişmişlik düzeyi, vb. veriler de incelemeye dahil edilmiştir. Türkiye'nin çeşitli gruplandırmalarda nüfus yoğunluklu bir kümelemede öne çıkmasına rağmen, yolcu ve yük taşımacılığında geride kaldığı görülmüştür. The status of railway transportation in Turkey is improving day by day, which used at a high rate and high standards in European countries. Railway transportation, which is a safe, low cost and environment-friendly transportation method, is important both for passengers and freight transport. In this study, statistical data and passenger and freight transportation data in Turkey and European Union countries was analyzed by clustering analysis, one of data mining methods. Additionally, to get a better view of the location and status of Turkey, more data (population, level of development, etc.) were also included in the study. It was observed that, Turkey, despite the lead in the population intensive clustering, stays behind in the passenger and freight transport intensive clustering.

Osmanlı devletinin son dönemlerinde başlayan ve Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin kuruluşundan sonra başlıca devlet politikalarından biri haline gelen demiryolu atılımı, günümüzde de çağa uygun şekilde yürütülmeye çalışılmaktadır. Demiryolu taşımacılığının yeni bir merhalesi olan yüksek hızlı tren kullanımını yaygınlaştırmak adına ülkemizde çeşitli altyapı çalışmaları ve tren projeleri hayata geçirilmektedir. Bu çalışmada Dünya Bankasının hazırladığı demiryolu reformu konulu rapora göre Türkiye'nin diğer Doğu Avrupa ülkelerine göre hangi noktada olduğu tespit edebilmek maksadıyla kümeleme analizi metodu uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre Türkiye'nin Doğu Avrupa ülkeleri arasında demiryolu reformu açısından iyi bir konumda olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Railway development in Turkey started at the end of the Ottoman era and accepted as the one of main development policies of government in early period of Republic of Turkey which is capable of developing up to date modern railway systems. In recent years, high speed train development can be shown as a new phase for railway systems and Turkey have been also investing in a significant amount of money in this area. In this study, Turkey is compared with East Europe countries by applying clustering analysis, in terms of railway reform level according to World Bank report. The results indicate that, Turkey is the one of the leading East Europe countries in the area of railway development.
